I got some very good news this evening, the best band out of San Diego Fifty On Their Heels won the SD Weekly Award for Best Punk Album!!!! (more info)

Past winners include Hot Snakes (2005), Blink 182 (many times), No Knife (1999), and Unwritten Law (1998). Not too shabby and especially great as that they are the first release on a new indie in SD called Cat Dirt Records. (label blog) They beat out Some Girls (Deathwish/Epitaph Records) and GoGoGo Airheart (GSL Records) who have definitely been around the scene for a while and toured the US many times over. It is really great that a young band with only an EP out won a big award chosen by the San Diego Music Scene big-ups. As well, they are talks that they will record up in LA with a friend, so that will be remarkable. To me, they are a mix of T.S.O.L. and Gang Of Four...and I have stressed that I hope they add the Theme to A Clockwork Orange into the mix as well, I think that would be brutal.
